Construction Projects Announced in the North

A number of high-profile construction projects have been announced over the past few weeks, bringing the promise of plenty of jobs opening up for construction workers and tradespeople across the North of England.

11-storey student accommodation to be built in Leeds

Gregory Property Group have purchased a 0.8 acre site adjacent to Kirkstall Road, Leeds after securing planning permission for a new 407-bed student complex in late 2018.

The development comprises 90 student flats over 11 storeys, alongside communal social spaces including a lounge, cinema, gym, games area and study facilities.

Development of the complex will contribute to the regeneration of the Kirkstall Road area, while also offering the benefit of increased job vacancies for construction and site operative staff throughout the build process.

Plans revealed for 17-storey Manchester hotel

Property investor, Catalyst Capital has revealed plans to build a new hotel in Manchester city centre under Dalata’s Maldron Hotels brand.

The 17-storey hotel, located close to Oxford Road station, will feature 278 rooms, a restaurant and bar, business centre, meeting rooms and cycle spaces. Under the current plans, if planning is approved in June, construction work will begin in September 2019, with the hotel due to open in 2021.

Dalata predict that the new development will directly create around 110 new jobs, as well as further indirect roles through the supply chain.

Proposed plans for residential development in Bolton town centre

Plans have been proposed for a new £35m residential development in Bolton. The development, which is currently subject to planning permission, would consist of 258 apartments, 4 townhouses, private cinemas and gyms.

The complex has been proposed by Forshaw, and would be built on the derelict land on St Georges Road, between Bark Street and Back Bark Street.

The plans are expected to be submitted to Bolton Council soon, with work to commence towards the end of 2019.

With the announcement of these projects, alongside many others, we expect to see a solid rise in the number of available jobs for skilled construction workers and tradespeople across Yorkshire and the North West over the coming months.
