A number of high profile construction projects have been announced recently, promising an increased demand for construction and trades workers across Yorkshire.
Projects to have been given the green light include:
8,000 homes to be built in Leeds South Bank area
With huge developments in the pipeline (including over 16,500 new homes, and projects around the HS2 train station and South Bank), the City of Leeds is expected to “double in size”.
Led by Vastint, one of the main proposed developments will see 8,000 new homes built in the South Bank area. This project is expected to have the potential to double the economic output of Leeds City Centre and create over 35,000 new jobs.
Proposal approved for residential and leisure development in Castleford
Castleford Riverside Regeneration have been given the green light for a significant residential and leisure development in Castleford. The £750m scheme will consist of the creation of 1,400 new three and four bedroom homes, shops, a hotel, health centre and more.
Although some elements of the proposed development may need to be re-submitted to Wakefield Council at a later date, the majority of the scheme has been approved and is due for completion in 2027.
Progress for planned development of hotel and restaurant in Hull
The application for the development of a new hotel and restaurant in Hull City Centre was recommended for approval at a council meeting on 6th June.
Sheffield based DLP Planning submitted the plans in 2017, proposing a new 106 bedroom hotel with a restaurant and bar. Five two bedroom serviced apartments and a 2,800 sq ft retail unit were also included in the proposal. Hull City Council’s planning committee will consider the application in the upcoming meeting.
With the announcement of these projects, alongside many other new and ongoing schemes across Yorkshire, we are expecting to see the demand for skilled construction workers (and the number of new job vacancies) continue to rise.
