More Manufacturing Jobs Created As Industry Enjoys Uplift In Activity

The UK labour market has continued to bring good news to the manufacturing sector over the past few months, with job seekers enjoying more choice from the increased number of vacancies available.

While we may have seen a slow down in April of this year, May brought a much more positive outlook to the sector, with production output increasing, and the EEF reporting that rates of employment were at their best since records began in 1971.

Compared to the same time in 2017, the official statistics showed that there were 440,000 more people in work and 115,000 fewer people unemployed. In fact, the unemployment rate is currently at 4.1% - the lowest it has been since 1975.

Further to this, over the past year, manufacturing has continued to take the lead on job creation, and is the fifth largest sectorial employer overall, with 46,000 new jobs created in 2017.

With the number of job vacancies continuing to increase, and levels of new business starting to grow again, if you’re looking to move into the manufacturing sector, or if you’re ready to enter the next stage of your career, right now could be the best time to start applying for a new job.
