The recruitment teams at XCL’s Huddersfield and Bristol offices have noticed a recent rise in businesses engaging us after struggling to find and attract skilled candidates for their vacancies. And looking at recent industry reports, this seems to be a trend across the UK.
According to the latest KPMG / REC Report on Jobs, February saw a slowdown in growth for candidates being placed into permanent positions. While this was partly due to a decline in vacancy growth, the slowdown was fuelled primarily by a lack of staff availability across a range of industry sectors.
Throughout the country, a lack of suitably skilled candidates has made the hiring process more difficult, with many organisations struggling to find the right people to fill their vacancies.
In the North of England, James Stewart, Vice Chair at KPMG, reported that, “Widespread skills shortages are cooling the jobs market with the most acute issues found in sectors such as IT, engineering and nursing.”
A similar trend has been seen in the South, with Neil Carberry, Chief Executive at REC, further affirming the IT sector as being the area with the strongest demand. However, some firms in the South of England have reported seeing an increase in candidate numbers in the automotive and construction industries.
